Understanding the Amazon:
A complex web of life
The Amazonia is comprised of a diverse mosaic of biogeographic regions, which are delimited by its large rivers. These unique conditions have fostered diversification processes, resulting in a rich variety of wildlife, particularly among bird species.

!
Regrettably, a significant portion of this treasure is currently under threat due to the actions of humans who have been engaging in deforestation and encroaching on the Brazilian Amazon from its eastern and southern edges, which has been coined the "arch of deforestation". As a result, numerous birds within this region are now at risk of extinction.

This species is vulnerable due to habitat loss caused by human activities such as deforestation and urbanization.
Tapajos Hermit
Our Tale
The eastern region of Amazonia has been relatively underexplored in terms of birdwatching, mainly due to the lack of ecotourism companies operating in the area. Although, this region is home to a unique and treasured diversity of birds, including many species which cannot be found elsewhere.
Proceeding from this, we resolved to dedicate our efforts towards researching and evaluating locations, and cataloguing species and spots, with the aim of attracting birdwatchers and birding guides who are interested in experiencing the diverse but threatened wildlife of this region.

We firmly believe that conducting long-term monitoring is crucial to detect rare species and to understand their dispersion dynamics, in order to enhance the efficiency of birdwatching tours.

Luis Morais
Luis is a Brazilian ornithologist, PhD student on zoology, and leader of wildlife observation activities. He has lived in the Amazonian environment since he was a child, growing up among local hunters listening to tales of legendary creatures and forest animals.
His research focuses on the conservation of endangered species in the Amazonia, with a specific focus on the natural history, biogeography, bioacoustics, and ecology of birds. He is mainly interested in birds such as Tinamous, Forest Falcons and Ground Cuckoos. In his spare time, he plays the guitar and paints watercolors.
